Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: The location is quiet and exactly what I look for. We enjoyed eating outside, the additional plastic table was useful when it was windy and we could move around the large courtyard. The BBQ is more of an inside grill and is in the out building, it was fun to cook on. There are some great walks in the nearby mountains, stunning scenery and a myriad of wild flowers. Head up to the waterfalls, they were dry for us but were fantastic walks. Wear good shoes and take water etc. The caves are very nice. A number of visitor centres / historical sites are closed and have been for a few years so check reviews before heading off. The wifi is fine. The mosquitos and bitey things are busy there, the owners had installed a plug in unit in the bedroom which was helpful.

Negative: The house should have been cleaner. The kitchen extractor was broken and filthy, the cupboards had food debris inside. The over sink drainer was very dirty as were some of the utensils. There were only 2 tiny knives to eat with, we asked for more but they refused and we were told 'there are only 2 of you, you'll manage'. The bedside lamp switch was shorting and sparking with bare wires. I found out as it didn't work and I tried the switch. This could have caused fire, injury or even worse! I was surprised the RCD didn't trip and casts doubt on the integrity of the electrical installation. A cabinet in the bathroom was loose and held by 1 fixing. It swang out and side to side if it was opened. They told us ' this is usual, no problem'. Owners refused to fix the issues and didn't replace the bedside lamp. We were there 11 nights! There was no kettle, not unusual, but I asked if one was available. I was told there is no need for a kettle, Italians use a microwave to make herbal tea, there was no microwave! They delivered a dirty microwave which I didn't use. The sofa is in fact an additional folding bed. It is not comfortable. The air conditioning works well but is only in the living area, the bedroom was very hot as the cool air didn't travel there efficiently. A second unit or a fan would have helped. Be aware the photos of the house are flattering, it is actually quite small. It is adequate for 2 people but not as spacious as the photos suggest. I was very disappointed with the overall standard of the house. It is furnished cheaply which is ok if it is equipped well and clean, it wasn't The owners were not helpful while we were there and refused to engage on our return. Essentially, they had our money so tough luck mate. All in all a disappointing experience, there are better options nearby I'm sure but I was seduced by the photos on Booking.com. The photos do not reflect the experience.
